What’s in our Synergy regular petrol
Our fuel engineers spend hours and hours testing different ingredients and formulas, because they know the smallest change can make a difference. Like the molecules in our latest regular Synergy petrol that have been specially designed to help clean vital parts of your engine (like your car’s intake valves) and help look after your engine. You may have heard that nasty engine deposits can build up in your engine over time which prevent your car from performing at its best and can reduce your fuel economy.*
What’s in our Synergy Supreme+ premium petrol
Our Synergy Supreme+ petrol already had more cleaning power than our regular petrol – and includes molecules whose job it is to reduce the friction in your engine, helping to prevent wear and helping the moving parts work more efficiently. Making it our best ever protection for your engine.**
Learn about 5 key ingredients that are added to our Synergy diesels
Fuel Detergent No. 1
This ingredient does the dirty work, helping to scrub away deposits and protect your engine from build-up, which over time can affect performance.
Fuel Detergent No. 2
But you said, no, that's not clean enough! Enter Fuel Detergent number 2, this ingredient goes the extra mile, scouring nooks and crannies to wash away even the toughest gunk.
Changes in temperature can cause some ingredients in your fuel to get jammed. Solvent Fluid helps break them up, preventing congealing and letting the good times flow.
Did you know fuel can get out of shape? The Demulsifier works hard to help prevent fuel from holding onto excess water, which can wreak havoc in the distribution system.
Some ingredients like to stick around, leaving a film on your intake valves. Anti-Adhesion Compound shows them the door, preventing build-up to keep things running smoothly.
When you’re not looking, rust will try to make a move on key engine parts. That’s why we threw in some muscle—technically, Corrosion Inhibitor—to help shut down rust right from the start.
In an engine full of moving parts, the slightest bit of contact can leave you in an awkward situation. Our Friction Modifier reduces friction and helps protect engine components from wear.
What is the difference between regular and premium petrol?
As well as having a higher octane (which helps to reduce knocking-related performance losses in modern cars), our Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded fuel has extra additives which can benefit all petrol cars, even older ones. Making it our best ever protection for your engine.
Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded fuel has double the amount of detergent additive compared to our regular petrol, which helps give your engine a deeper clean. The cleaner your engine, the better it can perform and the more fuel efficient it is.
Synergy Supreme+ Unleaded fuel also contains molecules that help to reduce friction and prevent wear and tear in your engine.***
Keep your car well serviced, and make sure you check the oil levels regularly to help keep the engine happy.
It is good to get into the habit of changing up to a higher gear as soon as you can. Higher gears are more economical in terms of fuel consumption.***
Our research told us that Synergy is the best name for Esso’s fuel brand. Synergy incorporates a significant forecourt image upgrade – the first in nearly 20 years – with many innovative design elements to communicate fuel offers more consistently and effectively to customers.
Drive smoothly and at a reasonable speed whenever possible –driving at high speeds may use more fuel than driving at slower speeds. Remember, if you accelerate or brake suddenly it is likely that your engine will use up more fuel and produce more CO₂.
Anticipate the flow of traffic as far ahead of you as possible to help you avoid unnecessary stopping and starting. This will help you to drive more smoothly.
You can continue to make the most of Tesco Clubcard at around 200 Esso branded service stations that have a Tesco Express shop – nothing is changing for those service stations. At most participating Esso branded service stations, we have a new loyalty scheme – see here for details.
A shared journey means one less car on the road. This could help to reduce traffic congestion.
Synergy, the name of our fuels, is supported by the Fuel Technology descriptor referring to our investment in technical innovation. Our research and engineering team are conducting a program of work to look for ways to improve our fuel products.
